There is a payment problem that merchants in established markets rarely think about, because they do not face it. A business in Lagos, Buenos Aires, Karachi, or Dhaka cannot create a Stripe merchant account. PayPal is available but restricted in dozens of countries. Bank transfers work in theory and take up to a week in practice.

For merchants in these markets, and for any merchant who wants to accept payment from customers in them, the standard payment stack is either unavailable or expensive. XRP payments on the XRP Ledger are neither.

What makes international payments hard

Most payment infrastructure runs through card networks: Visa and Mastercard. Card acceptance requires acquiring bank relationships, which require regulatory licenses in each market. That infrastructure exists in North America, Europe, and a small number of other countries. Everywhere else, card-based payment processors either do not operate or are not available to merchants as a primary payment option.

For merchants in supported markets, the problem is cost rather than access. International transactions on Stripe carry a 1.5% surcharge on top of the standard 2.9% plus $0.30. Currency conversion adds more. SWIFT transfers arrive in 1 to 5 business days and carry fees at both ends.

Both problems share the same root: payment infrastructure built for a specific geography and then extended to others imperfectly, and at a premium.

How DropPay works globally

DropPay uses the XRP Ledger as its settlement layer. The XRP Ledger has no geographic restrictions. A transaction from Tokyo to Lagos settles the same way as one from London to New York: in 3 to 5 seconds, for under one cent in network fees.

DropPay handles the rest: the payment page, XRP conversion from the price you set, transaction monitoring, and webhook notification when payment confirms. You set the amount in your preferred currency. Your customer pays in XRP. The funds arrive in your wallet.

There is no merchant account approval tied to your country. No card network. No acquiring bank. No geographic restriction on who can send or receive.

Getting started

  1. Create a free account at droppayxrp.com/signup. Add your XRP wallet address in Settings. This is where all payments will arrive.
  2. Choose how to accept payments. Payment Links require no code. Create a link from the dashboard, set the amount, and share it with your customer. Embedded Checkout integrates into your website via the DropPay API for a fully automated checkout flow.
  3. Set your price in your local currency. DropPay converts the amount to XRP at the time of payment. Your customer sees the price in the currency you set and the XRP equivalent.
  4. Receive payment. When your customer pays, the XRP arrives in your wallet in seconds. Convert to local currency through your preferred exchange when needed.

Who this works for

Merchants in markets without Stripe. If you are based in Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, or one of the other 40-plus countries where Stripe does not support merchant accounts, XRP payments give you a way to accept international payment that does not depend on card network access.

Freelancers invoicing clients in other countries. A designer in Nairobi invoicing a client in Tokyo does not need a SWIFT wire or a PayPal account. A DropPay Payment Link settles in seconds with the rate locked at the time of payment, so both parties know exactly what was sent and received.

Digital businesses with a global customer base. Software, content, consulting, and other digital services can be sold to anyone with an XRP wallet. Japan and South Korea have among the highest XRP adoption rates globally. Nigeria and Argentina have growing markets driven by currency and banking friction.

DropPay works for merchants in any country. Create an account, add your wallet address, and accept your first payment. There is no geographic approval process.

Frequently asked questions

Do my customers need to understand XRP? Customers need an XRP wallet, which is an account on any exchange that supports XRP. In many markets, customers already have exchange accounts. For customers new to XRP, How to Pay with XRP covers the payment process from start to finish.

How do I convert XRP to my local currency? XRP arrives in your wallet after each payment. You sell it on an exchange that supports your local currency and withdraw to your bank account. The XRP cash-out guide covers this for major markets including Nigeria, Japan, South Korea, Argentina, and Europe.

Are there limits on payment size? The Free plan supports up to 25 active payments. Pro removes that limit. There is no cap on individual payment amounts on either plan. See pricing for the full comparison.
